Project Overview
The house sat in historic downtown Prescott with a front yard of bare dirt and tired grass. The goal was straightforward: create a low-maintenance landscape for a vacation home shared among family members, including young grandchildren, while solving hidden drainage problems that threatened the foundation.
Design Choices That Work
For a vacation property, durability and minimal upkeep are priorities. The solution combined synthetic and hardscape elements to deliver both beauty and function.
Artificial turf in the front and back for a green, tidy look without mowing or watering.
PA border to neatly separate turf areas and define walkways.
Weston stone block border to create raised garden bed planters and add architectural interest.

Solving the Hidden Drainage Issue
One of the most important, but least visible, parts of the project was a comprehensive underground drainage system. Water was collecting against the foundation and the siding, so a drainage pipe was installed to collect runoff from both the backyard and the front yard and route it out to the road. That simple fix protects the structure and prevents future water damage.

Outdoor Entertaining Made Easy
The family wanted an outdoor space built for togetherness. A generous paver patio with a fire pit area and abundant seating became the social center of the yard. The layout allows people to gather comfortably in multiple seating zones, perfect for a family reunion or a quiet evening on the patio.

What this delivers
Multiple seating areas so different groups can mingle without crowding.
Fire pit focal point for year-round use.
Easy circulation between patio, play area, and entry.
A Safe Play Area for Grandkids
The yard includes a large artificial turf play zone designed with children’s safety in mind. To reduce the risk of bacteria and keep the surface sanitary, a microban infill was selected. Microban inhibits bacterial growth in the infill, making the turf safer for little ones who play barefoot or sit on the grass.

Low Maintenance, High Enjoyment
Prescott Historical Home Landscaping focused on solutions that minimize upkeep and maximize enjoyment. Artificial turf eliminates mowing and mud tracking inside the house. The drainage system protects the foundation. Stone borders and clean lines keep planting beds tidy and easy to manage.
Key benefits
Reduced maintenance – no mowing, no constant watering, less weeding.
Family friendly – safe play surfaces and multiple gathering spaces.
Long-term protection – drainage solutions protect the structure.
“Plenty of seating” and “microban infill” are the small details that make this landscape both welcoming and practical.
